hrm... I checked out your site, and I have one prob with it. It says it has a top speed of 125, but I've personally brought it up to 135. I've only added on a K&N and I know I have the newer Bosch CIS injection system, but the car is generally stock. Where did you get those numbers? And is the 230 HP with or without the newer injection? I am very curious, because short of going out to a dyno I have looked all over to find out my approxamite HP.

that's why I was confused... on his page it says gross HP at 230, and I've heard a rate of 180 from others. is this 230 with no accessories and 180 to the wheels? I'm quite confused, and if you follow his link, you'll see what I mean. I did notice a slight power gain out of the K&N, but I can't quantify it.

I was also told that the bosch CIS injection system added quite a bit of horsepower, but I'm not sure how much

ok... sorry about the mph thing. It seems that the car you have specs for has a 3.07 rear diff, and I was told that the later models (like mine) have a 2.50 or something. That would also explain why your car can do 0-60 almost a second faster than mine (fastest I got was 10ish). Sorry for dragging out the thread

Clarifications
The data in the web page listed in the beginning of this thread ( . . . MBspecs.htm) is from MBenz factory publications (their exact titles are at the top of the table on that page). I've heard (and believe) that the '72-73 107s were the fastest of the 107.044 series (560SL's are faster yet, but they are 107.048s).
Another page (not mine) shows the year to year progression (with a few gaps): http://home.hiwaay.net/~gbf/107/107chron.html I've always wondered where the 195hp (net) figure comes from for the '72 model. No official MBenz publication I've seen, and no road test in a magazine I've seen, shows ANY net figure for that year. My assumption is that whoever put that web page together calculated an estimate based upon some theoretical ratio between gross and net hp. BTW, the description of the difference between how net and gross are measured (earlier in this thread) is accurate and matches what's on the page I linked to in the footnote to the table on the MBspecs.htm page. What isn't clear is that the changeover was supposed to be in 1971, yet MBenz was apparently still using the gross method in 1972. Anybody heard a story that would explain that? |
