odor coming from vents
I have a 98 sl it started giving off odd odor when I first start car then it seems to go away, also the AC will switch over to EC and not go out until I shut off car,Then one day the AC is ice cold and the next it blows warm air.This is what I have done so far: replaced cabin filter,sprayed wurt's cleaner in intake. seems to have helped a little.It has been suggested that I have AC evacuated and refill and also have evaporator cleaned.I won't fool with AC will have that done,can I get to the evaporator and clean that myself?

what kind of odor? like a sickly sweet smell or a moldy smell?

SO on my BMW (89) that was in storage before I bought her , I had a moldy type smell, I removed all the guts of the HVAC to replace heater core, cleaned everything I could,disinfected , cleaned out drains ect...
Still there So last week I had to replace an electrical component and while doing that noticed a little fluffy stuff in the heater duct. 2 hours later and I removed a serious mouse nest, albiet old, complete with petrified mice. Now the odor is gone.. Wonder why.. Im just tellin ya..... lol  - you never know
