Exotic?
Do any of you consider the R129 an exotic car? Or it has to be something like a Ferrari or Aston Martin?

I think that mercedes SL's are more sports cars. Exotic would be more applicable for Ferrari, Maserati, Lambourghini, Pagani, Shelby, Lotus.... you get the idea. One of my goals in life is to own an exotic of my choice (either one of many ferraris, a lambo diablo or murcielago, a lotise esprit, or a vector M12). The only mercedes I would consider an exotic is the Vision SLR.

I think the high price tag, rare metals used in construction, components found only in race cars, and limited production numbers are the barometers used in determining what is "exotic".
Note that exotic doesn't equate with reliability, durability, and usefulness. Exotics require constant (and expensive) care and feeding. But owning an SL was a dream of mine, so that's as exotic as I care to get. I would say exotics can be likened to a supermodel, whereas, the SL would be the attractive local girl you secretly desired for years...and finally wooed! You don't think you could marry a supermodel and comfortably expect her to tool screaming tots around to soccer games, do you?
