Unhappy Engine cutting out after 5 days of no use

I have a 92 SL300-24V and after 5 days of no use its drives fine for 10 mins and then the engine splutters and cuts out. After 30 mins it starts and runs fine until the next long period of no use. The mechanic has replaced the engine temperature sensor, the OVP fuse but with no effect....please help with any ideas !!!

I think your mechanic is throwing parts at the problem.

It sounds fuel-related to me, specifically, like a dirty fuel filter. Could rear itself after a long period of inactivity.

I could be wrong, but it's a cheap item to replace if you are going to throw any more $$$ at the problem trying to guess...

Other possibility is the fuel pressure regulator or the fuel accumulator. But I'm talking W124 models here so it may not be applicable here.

If your fuel pump sounds unusually noisy, then it's a sign of impending failure.

Unhappy

The fuel filter was the first thing to be replaced, but with no effect. Its almost precisely after 10 mins that the car engine stops !! My problem is that I live in Hong Kong and the local guys have no idea how the identify a problem and fix it......they just keep replacing parts until its fixed. Any more ideas would be very welcome, can you imagine on HK's busy streets what happens when my car dies on me....the noise from the car horns behind me is deafening !!

Have you cleaned the injector heads? Check for fuel line blockage? It sounds like your car is not getting fuel.

The injector heads have been cleaned and the pressure in the fuel line has also been checked. One point though, apparently the car does loose fuel pressure over a matter of days.....but why would this cause the cut out and then restart OK after 30mins ! More ideas are very welcome....

Maybe you have a bad fuel pump. Did you check that one out also?
