Question SL500 anyone notice lack of bass/rear sound?

OK now that my SL is coming together I can think of some discretionary spending on it. I think the sound is decent, but with no rear speakers there is a lot missing from the back. Just wondering how you guys solved it? Slim line woofers in the rear hatches? 6X9's in the rear space?

I have 6x9's, and even though they don't play the super low bass (nelly: number 1) they are good at low-mid range, all I would suggest is to have them amplified (besides the head unit).

Do you have the OEM subs in the rear? I think mine sounds fine.

As far as rear sound distribution, that effect is nulled out when the top is down.

It is difficult to get great sound out of the rear of ANY convertible without some real enhancements...I think MB did pretty well...

G-Benz there are OEM subs? I dont see any speakers whatsoever in the back of the car, only the woofers and tweeters in the doors and the dash speakers. Im quite surprised that MBz did not throw in a couple of speakers in the rear panel, looks like they have several inches room between the hatch and the soft top.

The 94 and later 129SL offered an optional Bose system, which included a subwoofer. It was the accoustimass type, and it took up the space under the rear storage hatch on the drivers side. These cars have two holes on the vertical part of the storage bin to let out the sound. Our cars don't have the holes or the wiring for this. I plan to add one of these to my 91 someday.

Didn't know what year they came out...sorry.

It's a ported Bose setup in the rear hatch area, and it is a major improvement over systems in other convertibles I had in the past!

A subwoofer enclosure is really the only way to go in a convertible...the softtop design has too many open cavities for good bass response.

www.************************ makes ported speaker systems designed to fit in the rear for both the R107 and R129 series...

speaker enclosure

Went to the Performance Products web site and couldn't find any info on the speaker enclosures.

Do you know if they have them listed on their website? And where?

Thanks

That would be awesome if I could find a system made to fit into the back of my 129. I also had no luck in finding any speaker products for the 129 on this site. Could you post a more specific link, or the right searchword?

Thanks much. Im really thinking about a slimline self enclosed woofer for one of the rear hatches, it has to be better than nothing.
