SL in UK Spring (pics, lots)

Spring has arrived, right on time. Spent the morning waxing then spent an hour this evening messing around with my digi camera. Hope you like the results.

Hey I think that you are bragging, but I do not blame you as I would too. Very nice car and great pictures.

Yeah, a bit. But I'm so thrilled with my new car and I just love this part of the world (even if it is regarded as a backward wasteland by the rest of the country), so I can't really help it.

Yeah, I know what you mean; I live in the backward wasteland of west Texas. You're inspiring me; I need to wax mine and go take some pictures. I don't have a digital camera so will burn some 35mm and have 'em put on CD. Then all I have to do is figure out how to upload...

Beautiful car, great photos. But I'm curious---what is the pole in the background of a couple of the pictures with something hanging from it?

It's Winter's Gibbet. A Texan would feel right at home here! Back in the early eighteenth-century there was a brutal robbery and murder near here; after the culprit was hanged, the gallows were taken (body still hanging) to within sight of the crime. It's still there (though the head is wooden). The head gets stolen every now and again. Perhaps we need more hanging round here...

Here is a closer view:

I actually thought that was what it looked like, but discounted my first impression...an interesting story. As it happens, I very much agree that that is the way capital punishment should be done when it has to be done---by public hanging in the jurisdiction where the crime occurred. 'Twould be a terrific deterrent!

I doubt I'll be able to come up with nearly as interesting a backdrop; perhaps Lubbock High School, where Buddy Holly was once a student (as was I...) Or maybe Coronado High School, where Willie McCool (one of the seven astronauts on the Columbia) was a student (as, also, was I, my last year...) Or maybe Texas Tech, where the now infamous Dr. Butler lost the plague vials...but none will match Winter's Gibbet!

Best,

Travis

Was curious about Winter's Gibbet; thanks to the wonders of the Internet, the answers come up in seconds!
Gorgeous car and beautiful country, indeed.

A most interesting story; thanks for supplying the link!

Here's a picture of my SL; not a very good one, alas.
