Shifting Problem

Hi
I have a 1975 450sl that has a pause before shifting into 3rd gear. I have to let up on the gas and then it shifts into 3rd . I am thinking it is a vacum leak to modulator valve . Has anyboby had this problem and if so what is the cure.
