interior problems

The car is a 1990 300sl. The compartment that house would house the optional cell phone does not open properly. When I press the button, it gets stuck inand I have to pull it out and pull the compartment open. Also, Those two panels in the center compartment one comes down and conceals the tape holder and the other comes up and conceals the ash tray. The one that slides down dissapeared. Its my moms car and I was in it one day and it just wasn't there. I think it fell down somewhere under the armrest. Anyone have any ideas?

Compartment with stuck button: you might try removing it and checking-out what is going on. A spring should cause the button to return. You remove it by opening the compartment, removing the two screws at the back, and pulling it out.

Compartment cover: the handle on these seem to break-off over time, and this allows it so slide down and disappear. It's easy to get it back, but you have to unscrew quite a bit of stuff. The key is to remove the center armrest assembly with the top of the console. The top is secured by two screws on each side in the large storage area and by a pair of screws at its front edge. To access this pair of screws, you will need to completely remove the wooden console piece or at least raise it up a few inches. That's not hard to do, and if you search, I think you will find a write-up of the procedure.
