Been browsing the forum and quite impressed by the knowledge here, here's my go at having a solution.

My soft- top will open allright, howver while closing the rear right lock will not attach leaving about a quarter inch gap, i can manage to close it afte adjusting the lock (access through boot) and manually pressing it (no warning beeps as i drive or flashing button), how could i fix it......

Thanks in advance!!!!!

I had a similar problem on my 1990 300 SL and the problem turned out to be the rear top latch assembly. I had it replaced last September and haven't had any problems since. Unfortunately, it's another one of those "expensive" parts.

Before you replace any expensive parts, you may try to retrieve diagnostic codes by shorting socket #10 of your car's diagnostic connector to ground for three seconds with the ignition on and counting the number of flashes from the convertible top switch. This is eplained in detail in many threads. It may be that a limit switch on the latch simply needs to be adjusted. Post your findings here, or write to me and I will email a document with the codes.

Talking Problem Fixed!!!!!

I read all the fault codes for the soft top(#10) and roll bar(#7) and erased them, finally turned out to be a lock at the rear right that needed an adjustement, (cost me less than $100 and a few hours of work).

Thanks Bob ! for letting me in on reading the codes without the diagnostic tool and providing me with the fault codes list (have it stored safely in my comp). You definitely saved me a bundle.

Do all 129s have diagnostic connectors?

Do all R129s have diagnostic connectors, or are they just there from a particular date onwards? (I don't have a need right now, but I don't know what this looks like, and see nothing obvious.)
