What a car! What a week

Just back from my holiday to France. I've done a little over 2,600 miles in 9 days. The car never missed a beat. On day one I drove from Amsterdam (that's in Holland for those who skipped geography) to Clermont Ferrand (south central France) with an almighty hangover, a distance of 750 miles. There I met a friend with a 1981 500SL and we drove to the Dordogne, only 150 miles.

French motorways are brilliant. I was able to average about 90mph (including stops) and touched an indicated 160mph (but my mother telephoned before I could get any higher). The car was rock steady, very impressive.

Weather was superb, top down all the time once there. I'll post some pics later.

On Wednesday a female friend joined me. She is pretty stunning. For various reasons (all of which now seem trivial) I have never considered her a prospect (no, she's not my cousin or anything). I'm certainly in lust, if not in love!

Anyway, this is how life should be: gorgeous girl for a seat cover (no kidding, I don't know what she sees in me), top down on the bird trap, sun shining, beautiful country, fine wine, rich food &c, &c.

I left her at Bordeaux airport at 16h40 yesterday ( sob); Paris by 20h30 (580km); Calais by 23h30 (a further 280km, but traffic was heavy around Paris). I rose early this morning and was on the road in Blighty by 7h30; 600km and 4 hours later, I am at my desk. What a car. Almost 1,000 miles in about 12 hours, including stops for fuel, coffee and the inevitable "gypsy's kiss".

Don't know what she sees in you?

Maybe it's not you. Maybe it's the car... :p

JJ:

Great photos! They really capture the spirit of your trip. Where are the photos of your seatwarmer?

I see you have wipers on your Xenons. I didn't think it was possible. Are they factory?

Nice! Thanks for posting.

P.S. Don't you think it was a mistake buying a two-seater? I mean, you can only fit ONE beautiful seat cover in..

These are lovely photos... I particularly like the very horizontal sliver of a photo with the two SL's and the older building in the background.
