Box where cassettes were???
Does anyone know of a box made to replace the cassette storage on my 95 SL500 ? Cassette rack came out rather easily and there is a nice area there now for storage,,, cup holder or ? I definately need a box as small objects could easily roll out of sight in this area now.

PJ I bought a cup holder for mine off of Ebay. They are standard on 96 on up so if you can find one on ebay, junkyard, or I think there was someone on here with a contact for one. I think they run a good $150 plus. Pretty easy to install, just take off your wood console, and it pretty much pops in. You do lose your ashtray, but for me that was a benefit.

After talking to the parts guys at the dealer, they said the later cup holders will not work. So I started thinking,,, my 97 E420 had a neat cupholder in the center console that extended and retracted. List price seems to be around 60 bucks or so. I ordered one of those and WILL make it work in a neat and orderly fashion. Will post pics upon completion.

I got the same run around from the parts dept. The 96 on up cup holders will indeed work perfectly in the older models, you even get the lock feature that locks it down when you put the alarm on. Only thing is you lose the ashtray.

Yes again, I did the conversion in a 1991. You have to take the center console out, then some screws in the armrest assembly and it comes right up. If you know where not to mess up you can do the conversion in a half hour.
