Question Wood/Leather steering wheel for 90 SL??

Anyone know where I can find a wood and leather steering wheel for my 90 500SL? Couldn't find one on the Performance Products web site.

Any leads greatly appreciated. Aaron

Eris Car Designs is a good place to buy the wheel.

Performance Products sells the exact same steering wheel, but for $599.00. They are in the catalog. You'll have to request one on the website.

Thanks!

Thanks guys for the update/info ...

Question: has anyone ever ordered from www.eris-car.de? I went to the web site and ... not to be offensive ... the English site seems a little scary (looks old, not translated well, AND - most important - the order form where you put in your CC number is NOT secure!!)

I'm just a little hesitant to enter my personal info there ... I mean, their prices are great and I'd love to order from them but ... just looking for some moral support from anyone with a positive experience with them.

Thanks,
Aaron

Yes, many people that I know have ordered from that site.

The english is odd, but they are a regular, ethical company.

Hi-Power has ordered two steering wheels from them, and he was happy with the transaction.

If you have any questions, they can answer an e-mail in english.

Hi-Power orderd a regular wood OEM steering wheel (like mine) for his 300E.

He also has an E420 that has the burlwood interior, and he ordered the Steering wheel Victor - Comfort with Airbag in Wurzelholz. It is absolutely beautiful, but more expensive @ 549 euros.

If you prefer the original look, then go for the Steering wheel Comfort with Airbag in Wurzelholz. 359.00 EUR.

They actually use an original steering wheel, cut out the top and bottom portions, and insert the wood. Then, they wrap the remaining black portion in new leather.

They are a piece of art and you'll love it.

MB-Crazy ... you are the man! It's not that I didn't trust you, I was only looking for another reference Thanks for recommending them!

I'm going to suggest to Eris cars that they implement SSL on the transaction pages.

BTW ... your car looks great! I'll post a pic of mine soon.

MB-Crazy ... did you lower your car?? It kind of looks like it in your pic ... If so, what kind of springs are you using? I'm thinking about lowering mine ... can't decide between Eibach or H&R. Any thoughts? Is one really that much different from the other?

Credit card security

I always think it is hilarious that people are suspicious of using their credit cards on the net. I mean: you think nothing of reading out your credit card number on the phone, or giving your credit card to the waiter who disappears with it for ten minutes. The only person who is likely to get your number on the net is the end user; if he is going to abuse it, no matter how much security there is on his site, he gets your number.

Anyway, any fraud is as against your bank, not you.

jj ... it's not the person receiving the info that concerns me. It's the hacker using a sniffer to intercept data packets from a network segment known to pass unencrypted financial info that I'm worried about. That person has nothing to do with the ecomm site itself; he's just a technically savvy opportunist waiting for blissfully unaware folks to send valuable info unencrypted across the wide-open internet for anyone to see.

I am involved with internet security as a profession and know what/where the vulnerabilities are.

This is why (if you notice) on EVERY reputable ecomm site, there's a little lock in the lower right corner of your browser window to let you know it's a secure, encrypted connection. You'll see it as soon as you get to a checkout page requiring any "real" info. If it was not a critical component, then virtually EVERY ecomm site wouldn't go through the extra steps to set it up.

It's not to protect you against the person receiving your info, it's to protect you from everyone looking at it along the way.

Buying unencrypted on the web is about as safe as not using a condom ...

... just food for thought.

Sniffing can be achieved I agree and many believe encryption to be the answer - but not me! I'm not sure of the algorithms used in SSL but after seeing W2K user names and passwords sniffed and recovered off a network myself, and bearing in mind these are 'one way' hashed this really has changed my opinion.

So JJ does have a point, and that one I make to internet newbies too.

Anyway, this thread is right off track now so sorry - just thought I'd add my 2pc too!

More importantly - great wheel, thinking of one for mine too, and thinking of lowering. Thanks for the links I'm sure they'll come in useful when I finally bite the bullet and buy my 500!
