here is a pic of my 560sl

I have posted messages several times, but never a pic of my car. However, I just got a digital camera last week. So here it is. What do you think? And what is your opinion of my front bumper? Front tags are not required in Indiana. I bought this car 2 years ago with only 28,000 miles.

Nice. I especially like the colour. Almandine Red? What year is it?

the color

I believe the color (or "colour" for the Brit above) is called Garnet Red. I've attached a better picture of what I've done to the front bumper.

Great looking car! I live in Michigan where the front tags are not required either. Where did you get the "filler" pieces to continue the bumper rub strip, where my licence plate backet now occupies?

It looks like your grill inserts are a little sun faded. I removed my grill and inserts this spring and painted them black, after reading about someone else doing it on this site. Makes a huge difference and very easy to do. Phillips screw driver and some masking tape!

sdent,

sdent,
I got the "filler" piece out of the Performance Products catalog. I looked on their web site, but the kit is not on there. In my catalog it is on page 11, item number 88-337 and costs fifty bucks. It was pretty easy to put on. I think it looks alot better than having an empty plate holder or even a plate with a MB emblem on it. It makes the front end look much "cleaner". Ys, my grill is fading somewhat. I will try painting it as soon as I get some extra time. Thanks for the tip.

MD2B, I like what you did with the front end! I'm replacing my fron and rear chrome bumper covers this weekend. What was in the "kit" that you got from Performance? Just the rubber strip?

Riggermike,

The "kit" has two pieces: 1) The rubber strip that is long enough to go all the way across, and 2) A hard plastic piece that is about 12 inches long that goes in the middle where the license plate holder used to be. You first attach the small 12 inch piece with either screws or glue (I used JB Weld epoxy) to the bumper. Then the rubber strip goes on top of this piece and along each side until it reaches the ends. In my kit, the long rubber piece was a little too long and I had to cut about an inch off with a knife.

I bought the chrome bumper covers from Potomac German Parts for $135 each. They look great and the job was fairly easy to do. I went ahead and ordered the front end kit like you put on from Performance and it should be here this week. I certainly like the looks much better without the license plate!!!!

Rigger,
I think you will be very happy with the look of your sl after you install the one-piece front-end kit from performanceproducts. Good luck with your project.

Rigger,
Did you get the one-piece front bumper yet?
