NO AC and it's 105!!! HELP

89 560SL First it was Intermittent. After starting the car, the AC just would'nt come on. I tried alternateing on and off ac switch and sometimes AC would come on sometimes not, sometimes it would opperate fine othertimes it would cut out after a bit sometimes it would come back on. I even tried (with about the same success ratio) restarting the engine at stop lights. That was last summer. This summer it blows hot air only. It seems to be hotter off idle than at idle. Also the center vents are not as hot as the outside vents???? I have searched the forum whith out any discussion matching my symptoms
Somebody hep me please.....

A/C

Does the compressor engage when you turn on the A/C (not the pulley itself but the center portion of the pulley)?

Have you checked the refrig. window glass (are there bubbles)?

The switch assy. is a known trouble area but it could also be a refrig. leak. If you don't have the equip. to test the system, you probably need to go to a repair shop.

A/c compressor

I had the same problem. Try replacing the indash climate control system, they're notorious for wearing out. Get one from a part locater. I think mine was $235.

I can tell you that the ACC system is not the place to just start replacing parts -- the parts are $$$ and many are interrelated -- it is sometimes better to go to someone who really knows the system.

I have learned the hard way on the ACC systems -- The pushbutton is a weak part of the system but so is the kima relay - I have replaced the pushbuttons only to find that this was not what was wrong -- I had to go to the dealer anyway.

If the compressor is running and it is not cold you will end up at a shop anyway - do yourself a favor and start there.
