Ken, I think I posted in your original thread. The 96 with the stock 16's has been upgraded to AMG 18's. My opinion? Worth it 110%. Yes the ride is harsher and yes I do actively avoid potholes, but I suppose it comes down to the type of driver you are. But if you are the type of driver that would buy an SL then I would think youwould want the increased handling of 18 wheels, otherwise why not just buy a S series or a CL convertable?
But for me the harshness of the ride is no where near where people tell you it is. And from experience it seems everyone that warns you away from the 18 wheels has never really had them to test out.
One piece of advice though, make sure you get something OEM that is made to fit, I would not trust aftermarket wheels and indeed the 18 wheels you see on my 1991 were nothing but trouble.

Have you noticed a big difference in the ride and handling?
Reason I ask, is because I think the 18" make the R129 look very sharp, but my MB shop (no vested interest) warned me off them, saying I'll get a harsh ride. They recommend 17" max.
What's your take on this?
