Finally I get to drive it!

Here's the 1986 SL that I've posted about in the past. I bought it on EBAY from a guy who drove it without oil long enough to seize the engine. I paid $5K including truck transport from Pa. to Md. Now, after $2.5K for engine from PGA and $2K for R&R by RC Imports (including new cam, timing chain and rails), then a $2K brake overhaul, I get to drive the car I've always wanted. I can't believe I was contemplating dropping a 5L Ford motor and drivetrain in there. What the hell was I thinking? This 5.6L rocks!

Maybe this would be a good time for everyone to post their SL pix! I'd sure love to see them and I'm sure that most of you would also! I sure miss my 420SEL, but not half as much as I thought I would. I love my SL.

Ken

Just out of interest what did you get for you 350SL in NZ? I'm just about to ship two cars from NZ to Sydney next month and I was curious to know what they are worth back home.

Regards,
Daryl

Those are beautiful SL's! How do you guys post those large, high resolution pictures? I tried to do that and got the error message that I exceeded maximum KB capacity. I had to reduce my picture size and resolution before it would post.

Re picture posting

A secret: Right-click over an image such as mine above and then click Properties. On mine, you'll see that it's somewhere around 48Kbytes, and you'll also see specific pixel counts. When you're working with your photo, reduce the size until the picture's small enough file to fit under the limit (66K, I think). Usually I found a picture size of 3 inches the long way at 180dpi works, although 72dpi will give a pretty decent image.
That's the drill for doing a picture as an attachment. You can also post as an automatically-loading link to another site where the photo actually resides; Ericdee's pic in this thread shows 77K size and the URL at which it's actually filed.

Size matters

From the head rest and visor positions, it looks like all of you are of, um, reduced vertical stature. I keep playing with settings on my '85 but am starting to think that nobody over 5'10" worked at Benz.

Nice deductive guess, "Sherlock", but I'm 6'1", 240.

I have as much legroom in my 560SL as I had in my 420SEL.
