380sl dyes after it gets warm

Have an 82 380 sl that dyes after warm up.
It will run if you hold starter switch in start position.
I put fuel in the intake still doesn't start.
When it cools off, it runs fine.

It may be more than one problem, but it sounds like you're losing fuel pressure. If you don't have an external check valve on your fuel pump, you should install one. If you do, you should replace it. They are around $15.

I'm not sure if 1982 came with the external check valve, but adding one is fairly simple. You'll need to reposition the fuel filter and fuel pump within the bracket in order for the steel line to connect. Make sure the plastic sleeves are still between the bracket and the pump and filter.

This is spelled out in the 07.3-283 procedure in the M116 3.8L manual. If you have a fuel pressure gauge, you can test the pressure before replacing any parts. J.C. Whitney has a good one for CIS injection.
