Age of a SL owner
I bought my R129 SL when I was 22. I just turned 23 and am very happy with the attitude my car seems to project. I actually feel more confident in life just because of a hunk of german metal. It has a very respectful look and gets as much attention as I would want or need. Although my current obsession is with the '03 230 SL, I'll just have to wait until an affordable price is available. Bottom line the car clowns all corvettes, bmw's(except the z8), boxters, and some 911's; not to mention almost everybody else. All I need now is xenons and I'll be walking on air...

Hi Boys and Girls, Iam 79. My first Sl was a 1959 190 which I bought when I was
46. Had the car for 30 years and sold it and bought a 1988 560Sl with 51k on the clock. Runs like a Swiss watch. The 560 isn't as easy to work on as the 190 was, but basically they haven't changed that much over the years. Happy miles ahead too all. Frank 560SLroadster |

49, just bought my first SL500. And actually just put it away for the winter.
Asked if it was a midlife crisis car I said sorry I'm a little old for that. |

Chronological age is irrelevant; "A man is only as old as she feels!"

:D Age 66, drove my 1st MB at 22 in Germany (USAF). Took me 30 years to get there, bought my 1st one (1979 450 SL) at age 50.

Turned 51 this year and bought my 87 560SL in Oct. It is a dream come alive for me, with regret put hard top on for winter. Taking her out on this sunny day to get more pics along with my aunt's 00 SL500.

I am 27 but bought my 97 Sl500 when I was 26. The only bad thing is that I will only have it for another 1-2 years then I will have to grade in the 2 seater for a 4 seater to accomidate the future children. Well the only thing is that I am going to move to a M5 with Dinan work done on it so I guess I am not totally down grading.

Bought my first for the wife at 40 (fire-engine red). Got the second at 48 (a more subdued and less noticable metallic blue).

I just bought my 1980 450 sl from my grandpa 4 or 5 months ago (for the price I paid, it was really a gift). I'm 31, he is 78. The cars is damn near as old as I am! I plan on keeping the car forever, or maybe passing it along to one of my kids someday. They're truly amazing cars. I get looks everywhere I go, my wife has nightmares about me picking up some young blonde in my "new" convertible! One day, I'll add a 129 to my collection. I've sort of rambled, but back to the age thing...
A friend of mine recently saw my car for the first time, he now calls me "Little Hef", in honor of Hugh Hefner. I think he's on to something. These cars (especially the 107's) seem to me to be representative of Hef's era/generation, but I sure do love being an old fart like Hef! |
