I'm 57, my husband got this for me for Christmas in 2007 when I was 55. I've wanted this exact car since I saw one new on the sales floor in Anchorage, Alaska in 1985.

My buddy may be the exception that proves the rule

My buddy Dell bought his first SL (used) when he was 70.

He liked the looks of the 380SL so he found one and bought it.

59 next month. My uncle who is 86 has a 1984 280sl. A whole lot nicer than my '73 450 but working on mine keeps me sane and sober most of the time.

I'm hoping to own one before I'm too old to actually enjoy it . . . .

I learned to drive in my Dad's '67 finback 200, and he later gave it to me as my first car.

His replacement was a '78 240D, which I also inherited after he drove the wheels off it. I fixed it up and drove the wheels off it again (>200k miles).

Two years ago I acquired my SL. I never imagined that I'd be getting a third Mercedes...and a 'cool' one to boot.

I so surprised to see so many young guys buying MB. I thought the younger guys bought BMW. Good to see. I have always wanted a MB as my good buddy's family have owned them for years and I saw how well they stood up and performed. I finally bought my first 1993 SL500 last fall, age 49. In december I bought my wife a 98 ML320 with only 59,000KM, (about 36,000 miles). But was driving and still am, a Cadillac STS, but with 300Hp not exactly the "old man" caddy like the old devilles.

I told my mechanic I was running out of time...

...when I took the 96 SL500 in for a pre-purchase look-over. I'd been
driving big OberKlasse diesels for many years, as well as an E320 station
wagon (for my wife, who was tired of diesel exhaust.)

Attached is a picture. Came with only 75K miles, all mechanical docs,
and had been driven by a Buddhist. I was just 60, and it sure helped me pass that milestone.

Cheers,
Richard
