Engine Braking on 560SL?
Does the 560SL have an engine brake? When I release my accelerator at 35mph or higher, I feel the engine decelerating the car. It's not missing, it idles smoothly and doesn't seem to be cutting out. It's just a noticeable pull back in velocity. Anybody know what this is?

It's just that the MB torque converter of the latter 80's wasn't intended to provide infinite glide, as seen in max-fuel-economy-engineered vehicles, but rather to retain a more direct connection between the engine and the car, not to mention between driver and machine. Noticed a similar difference, albeit more so, going from the Detroit barges Dad drove in the 60's (Lincoln, Cadillac) to his first MB in '69. Drive a car with a manual tranny and you'll notice more of a difference.

Yes, that's exactly what it reminds me of. It's like not upshifting a manual transmission and the gear returns the engine down to its optimal RPM. So there's nothing wrong with it, then. Thanks for the response cbdo!
