Unhappy 190sl?

hi guys, i am 20, and recently sold off my first benz, a 1972 220(dad force me to do so because of going oversea and study). right after that, i saw an ad selling a very nice merc 190sl for a very reasonable price, but i am still short of one or two grand us dollars. i wanted to buy the car but parents would not allowed me to do so. what should i do? as i only have a week here at home before i head to england. i think the car is the best deal you could get now.

At 20, and heading out of the country to study, you'd be leaving the car behind for someone to take care of. That someone is highly likely to be the same someone who doesn't think you should do this, and who is also (I'm making an assumption here, but probably a valid one) funding your study. The principle that comes to mind is readily reduced to the simple statement, "Don't bite the hand that feeds you". May I mention here that I speak as one who is the father of a college freshman.
More generally, it's probably wise to wait until you 1)need a car and 2)will be using it and able to keep it up properly, rather than letting it sit and wait to be run.

yeah, maybe i was out of my mind, but it is really sad to turn down a very good condition 190sl for a mere 14 thousands grand.
