Hi Bruce,

Welcome - that's a nice car indeed. I love the light interior, it gives the wood a richness that is somewhat lacking with black leather on my own.

That outside color combo is what mine looked like just a week ago. Now it is all one color, but I originally had a hard time deciding whether to one-color it. Everybody around me said that two tone paint combination like yours was one of the best. Have you ever thought of changing yours?

Hi Ken,

Thanks for the nice comments. Yes I did consider painting the bumpers, moulding to match the top. I talked to one of the best mercedes body/paint shops in the Phila. area. He stated the many SL owners do paint the bottms to have an updated SL look. Most of the people are very pleased with the results. When he looked at my car, he indicated that since the paint on top and bottom was in such prestine condition, he would - for right now - leave it alone. He said in the future if the car ever needed paint work, he could do it then. However, I'm still considering it.

Hi Bruce,

Mine had a couple of minor scuffs on both (!!) bumpers when I bought it that led me to consider a one-coat color. Never regretted it.

One thing the overall dark color does - in my view anyway - is improve the look of the 129 body by subtly disguising the frontal area. I found a lighter color brings out the heaviness /clunky look in the design of the front.

I had mine parked beside a silver 129 in the MB shop yesterday, and a couple of the staff said how much better, and lower, the darker car looked compared to the other one.

But if you're anything like me, you'll have years if use without getting a single scratch, and it'll be a long wait between compulsory paints.

Hi Ken, I agree the darker colors are somehat sleaker looking on the SL's and do tone down the large bumer face on the front. Your right, I do go to extreme lenghts to avoid getting any scuffs, dings in the paint, LOL

I have attached another picture of the car which illustrates your piont on the dark color and front end look. Talk with you soon.

Ahhh... that's one nice looking car anyway, regardless of the paintwork!

Similar

I have the same outside color, with brown interior. Personally, I like the two-tone. I suppose I mean I like things to look like they originally did.
