Does anyone know or could reccommend a good cleaner/restorer for the plastic rear soft top window. Thanks

McGuires makes an excellent plastic window cleaner. They also have a plastic window polisher to remove light scxratches. Many auto parts stores carry it. I have used the cleaner for 7 years on my SLs rear convertible window and it's still in great shape even with the smog and strong sunshine here in LA.

Bruce,

I also use Meguair's plastic cleaner #17 and polish #10 in combo. While they are very good, I found it was hard to get rid of the slight smearing on the window. By using very clean 100% cotton towels I found this could be reduced but it's still noticeable.

Then again, I'm pretty fussy (anal is the correct term, but I feel uncomfortable writing that :)).

An excellent resource for any cleaning for your Merc is www.autopia.org. The amount of knowledge and detail there on cleaning practically any part of a high quality car, including a lot of information from many Merc owners, is astounding.

I've just finished using Hindsight http://www.hindsight.uk.com/ and it's terrific!

I tried to take some real life photos but they just don't do the product justice - if you want I'll email you them.

Hindsight not only restores your plastic back to almost original transparency, it lubricates by replacing oils. It's not cheap, but in my opinion and in several magazines that have reviewed it, the best and well worth the money.

But make sure that you use masking tape or equivalent to mask off the material around the edges as it's a right pig to remove.

Some comments from their reviewers:

Mecedes Benz Club Gazette

'Hindsight miraculously removes scratches and opacity, and is environmentally friendly'

Total BMW

'Hindsight offers useful long term benefits. If you are restoring an older car then it would be worth spending the extra cash to bring back some flexibility and lengthen its life.'

Porsche World

Benefit of Hindsight on a 911 - 'After about 30 minutes work the entire window came up with a superb finish.'

Autocar

'Scottish Firm invents Screensaver'

I found a mild shampoo solution cleaned it up very well.

I just ordered and received the Meguiars Plastic Window Care Kit. It seems to have a little of everything including cleaner, polish, applicators and polishing cloth and a spray polish which would seem just right for after washing your car. I'm anxious to try the spray.
