Puking gas big time.
Pulled the SL out of the garage today and noticed a trail of liquid following me. Looked under the car, and gas was pouring out, right in front of the right rear wheel. I suspect that either a line came loose, or broke a fitting of some kind. Going to take a look tonight after I get home. With 36K I would be surprised that a line has deteriorated that bad. Will let you know.

Now this is really strange. Pulled the cover off the fuel pump and lines and ran the car,,,,, won't leak a drop. Can't tell where the gas came from either. something tells me this may be a known problem. Anyone??

My 90 Sl had the same problem - the gas line between the two fuel pumps had deteriorated and cracked. I read that this was a common problem on the earlier 129's, but I don't know if it applies to your 95. The line was easy to replace though - only took about 30 minutes including removing the rear wheel to access the line.

Thanks Craig, but this bugger won't leak a drop now, and if it were a deteriorated line, I would think it would do it all the time. I'm leaving the cover off the fuel pump so if it does it again, maybe I can look under and see what the heck is going on.

Two years ago this happened to mine.
Based on my current miles to date, that would be at about 31K, so it would seem to be an unusual time for a hose to deteriorate. It turned out to be a loose hose clamp near the pump, not a bad fuel line. So I removed the crimp-type MB clamp and replaced it with a screw-on type. No problems since. |
Actually caught it in the act, so to speak, today. Definately coming from the fuel filter and seems like a bad seam. Am replacing the filter and clamps so hopefully that will take care of it.
