timing chain replacement

At what mileage would I replace the timing chain and guides on a '74 450SL?

Use the search facility. There are mountains of entries on this subject.

ok

ok, i'll try again. couldn't come up with a mileage recommendation the first time.

It is usually recommended to change the chain and at least the 4 upper slides at 100k miles. If you can do the labor your self the parts are only about $100. The Haynes manual on the 350 and 450 sl/slc has the proceedure.

ok, looks like 100,000 miles for a timing chain replacement is the answer i was looking for.

Timing chain and guide rail replacement is one of the most discussed topics on this site.

There are mountains and mountains and mountains in the archives, well over a hundred relevant threads.

Here is one good thread that is pretty recent.
