intermittent climate control fan 107 SL
We had it in once already, our 1985 380SL, to have the climate control examined. HE thought he fixed it but still. It decides when it wants to work. Manually pushing high on the fan does nothing. There is just no fan, or it works properly, whichever it would rather.
Any troubleshooting ideas ? Anyone had this problem before!? Eric

I had that problem earlier this summer on my SL. It started off as once in awhile. It got more and more frequent. I fixed the problem by removing the pushbutton unit, opening it up, and using a low-watt soldering iron to resolder broken joints.
Been working 100% since then.

THATS exactly what is happening now. It is getting more and more frequent. Almost to the point where it never works. I'll check on doing that, thanks a lot MAheath!

Peyton and Mike,
Friend's 560SL exhibiting same thing ... Peyton, did Mike's fix work? Problem sounds electrical vice pneumatic or coolant ... seems reasonable direction ... is this consistent issue on this era SL? Thanks. email response is also cool ... george.stephenson@ngc.com

I know a handful of people who have done it and it fixed the problem. I know one person that tried it and it didn't fix the problem. That person bought a new pushbutton unit and that did fix the problem.

While that's all good information, the original problem is an intermittent fan and "Manually pushing high on the fan does nothing". That last part eliminates temperature control completely and implicates the pushbutton unit. A flaky ignition switch would be another possibility.
If you've never taken your glovebox out and checked the foam hose, you should. It will probably disintegrate in your hand. Mine did.
