Odometer stuck

Odometer..Help. 86 560 SL. While driving the other day I reset the trip odometer and it froze at zero. The Odometer also froze. Any help would be appreciated.

You may just have a stuck gear or a gear missing a tooth. Pull it out, see if you can see anything.

Thanks Ericdee, I'll check it out.

same thing happened to me a couple of weeks back. it was a stripped gear. manual tells you not to reset the trip odomoeter when vehicle in motion - it happens.

you should pull the gauge and diy the stripped gear or send it to a chop. a diy job will not cost much.

a shop will charge you about $80 to $120 to fix the gauge and abou $60 for r & r.

Re: odometer

What usually happens is the wheel slips on the shaft. Fairly easy DIY. Do a search, been described before. I have the same problem on 2 cars....winter projects.

Thanks for the advice, it appears I'll have to pull the steering wheel to get the cluster out. I read previous posts on doing this with an airbag and it sounds hazardous. Think I should go to a pro?
