Supposed to be bent

Well, the old rods are supposed to be bent just before the threads. I thought mine were damaged too, but then saw that the bends on the two rods were mirror images of each other. In any case, I experimented with the number of turns on the new and old rods before final installation. My new ones are both installed "fully in, less one turn", but I suspect that is a coincidence.

I ordered the updated parts for my 1990 from Phil here, wasn't expensive.

Took me an hour to install, thats taking my time.

I can probably locate the part numbers later if u need.

Sorry to resurrect an old thread but can anyone tell me where I can source replacement top bars with the spring adaptor without refinancing the house?

Nickguy,
I had the same problem, new improved parts were around 550.00. I used a paint stirring stick to push the center roof support away from car as i opened the top for closing. I sold that car and now have a 1996 sl320. I had planned on trying to find some tensioned fabric strips to replace my deteriorated ones.

Can someone please confirm tension spring passenger side?

The video is self explanatory.

Can someone please confirm if there is indeed another spring on the passenger side. i purchased a pair of OEM tension cables and springs a while ago.

Thanks
