correct color
Hi, I am a 3 week owner of a 1987 560sl and love her more and more each day, hope to get a digital camera and post pics soon but in mean time. I was told the color was midnight blue, is this the correct name for a dark blue car with blue soft top. It is a non-metallic paint

There's a metal plate mounted on your radiator support that has a bunch of numbers stamped into it. If, in the lower left corner, you see the number 900 stamped twice, then the official name of your color is "Deep Blue". If it's 929, it's a metallic paint and is officially "Nautical Blue". Oh wait, there's also a non-metallic 904 called "Midnight Blue". From my color samples, it looks almost black.
If it's not one of those numbers, then post the number (or a picture of your radiator plate) and someone will tell you what the official name is. This is my radiator plate. See where the two 040 numbers are? Those numbers indicate the original color of your car.

thanks
Mike, thank you so much, the number is 904 so it as I thought midnight blue. A 1973 450sl die cast arrived in the mail today we bought off ebay. We bought the model because it was blue, it is the nautica blue, it is so cool it has minature golf clubs, tennis racket with can of three tennis balls and a gym bag. The golf back is in the colors of the car blue and palamino. Thanks again for the help on letting us know what color our MB is.
