Dee8go-

Might sound a little dumb, but is there really a breast thread?

If so, where?

Thanks,

Vincent

Vincent, it's under open discussion. How did you miss it? It's actually called "Breast Implants" I think. Happy posting!
BTW, how do you like your SL600?

Vincent_SL600 07-16-2006 11:37 AM

Dee8go-

Right after I posted, I found it.

Love the 600 - an amazing automobile.

Best,

Vincent

You should put a picture(s) of it on the forum. I'd love to see it.

I was so excited to get it and now find myself in the biggest nightmare of my life. It is now at its 3rd dealership and still broken. I have learned the following and I think you should consider this before EVER buying one.

I've talked to 6 sl owners at the dealership while visiting my car. They brag about how much they have spent on their car "THIS MONTH" and seem think its funny. One guys says 'Yeah its usually a few hundred to a few thousand each month, but hey thats just part of the game with these."

I have discovered that these cars are for the wealthy who have not only lots of time for aggravation, but lots of money to spend. Every part they change on this car is a minimum of $500.00

.
If you are an everyday Joe, DO NOT BUY ONE OF THESE. They are unreliable, costly and from the time you sit in it to the time you get out you wonder what will break today. Spare yourself some headaches and lots of money and buy something new. Im not bitter about it,, just tired of all of the expense and aggravation. Dont make the mistake I have made. Its really really not worth it. There is no Quality in these cars

I have had a 79 450SLC since Oct of last year. I bought it with 114K miles, the car is rust free, frame and body, and as far a reliability is concerned I have had no problems except for normal maintenance.

It always starts on the first turn whether it is 100 degrees F or 10 degrees F.

My 99 C43 is also reliable, in the 4 years I have had it, I've replaced one MAS and one O2 sensor and 1 battery.

1980 450 Sl

Mechanically I put about $800.00 in parts when I bought it about 4,000 miles ago.
Now I have to change the round drive connectors & the hangar bearing.
Not bad for a 26 year old car that I can't even feel it idling.
I now have total into the car with purchase price $8,000.00 and that is with buying a kinder seat for the back and paint for the rear from the doors back.
The car now has 64,500 documented miles.
Buy a new KIA and it will cost me more..Don't think I will do that.

I have gathered from what I've been reading here that the post-95 MB's are much more prone to mechanical problems than the older ones. It sounds like this may be due to electronics since those areas seem to be ever-increasing.

Would you say this is true in your case?

Try buying a 600SEL (W140). A rebuilt engine can go for upwards of $30,000!:behead:

My MB mechanic seemed to hint that pre-1996 MBs were more reliable as well. It wasn't due to mechanical issues, but rather electrical. (As an example, the transmissions went computerized in 1996.)

I tend to agree, one Lil correction: tranny went "electronic" in 97 not 96 along with the extra gear.
