560SL transmission question

My SigOther came with an '88 560SL with 100K miles, previously owned by the sales manager for the local MB dealership and meticulously maintained per MB service schedule. I've a question though regarding what I consider to be a rather "solid" gear change even under light to moderate acceleration. There are no mechanical noises which would indicate a problem, but during normal upshifting it just seems a little harsh with no slippage at all and the shift can definitely be felt physically. Perhaps this is normal for that transmission and I'm merely used to American cars with smooth shifting which can barely be felt.

Thanks in advance for any comments or advice.

560SL Shifting

A 560SL recently joined my automotive family. It shifts much smoother than a 1993 300E I had previously. Drove other 560SLs before purchase and all shifted smoothly, although not as seamless as a brand new Mercedes with 5-speed auto box.

The SL has 90,000 miles and thorough service records that do not show any transmission overhaul. The E had about 124,000 when I got it, and also no record of major transmission service beyond regular maintenance. I have assumed that the E was, by nature and design, a harder shifting Mercedes than the SL. Driving style also seemed to affect how the E shifted: more aggressive throttle usually caused a harder shift. However, the SL feels the same regardless...smooth, but you can definitely tell when shifts occur.
