Central Locking/Alarm

My remote no longer activates/deactives the central locking system nor alarm in my '90 500 SL. I push the button, nothing happens - no flashing red or green light in the door handle. The same is true when I use the key itself in the door lock (either with the smart key or valet key) .. only that one door is locked/unlocked, so I have do walk to both doors to manually lock each, then lock the trunk.

If that wasn't bad enough, sometimes when I unlock the drivers door and start the engine, the alarm will go off while the car is running.

It's been and is a great car ... it just seems a little confused right now.

Any ideas, thoughts, or suggestions on what the cause is? or better still what the cure is?

Any help greatly appreciated.

Thanks!

Check the fuses first (in the trunk by the right hinge behing blue tab, I think). This exact problem drove me nuts for a few weeks, before I realized that the auto lock system was not allowing the alarm to arm or disarm properly, because it had blown a fuse. Good luck.

Eli.

Wink It was the fuse!

Thanks, Eli ... it was the fuse (#6 8 amp fuse in the trunk).

Replaced it, all is well again. Thanks again!! I feel like a bit of an idiot for not checking all of the fuses first.

It was the fuse for me too !

My Central locking system failed today. I did not know about the fuses in the trunk. The plastic cover does not look much like a fuse cover either. The fuse for the system was the same fuse for the trunk light. Once replaced everything worked again.

On a side note, when it failed I had to lock the trunk, doors, and dash locks one at a time. When getting back into the car I only unlocked the driver door and shortly after the alarm went off. All locks need to be unlocked or it will cause the alarm to go off.

Thanks for the tip ! I was glad it was only a fuse.
