Hard-to-Find 107 Drain Holes

I am still chasing leaks on my 380SL. I noticed that water would pool in the little well under the wiper "drives," on the driver's side but not on the passenger side. I assumed that there was some sort of problem with a seal on the passenger side that was allowing water to get in under the cowl.

Not so. There are very small drain holes at the bottom of both wells that allow water to run into the cowling and then out the drains on the outside of the blower motor chamber. The passenger side hole was quite plugged.

drain holes

In order to find the drain holes you must remove the lower dash panel (drivers side) and the carpeting on the driver side of the transmission tunnel.
Pull it back towards the shifter. Just below the heat/ac controls is a tube to drain the heater core/box, about six inches towards the firewall is another hose about 3/4 inch diameter and about 13 inches long, which is the drain from the windshield/cowling. You must contort your hand and reach up to remove it form its male connection and free it from the transmission tunnel. The hose is either cracked or has a hole in it in addition to being clogged. Once you have removed it you may have to wrap it with a plumbers tape to use it until you get the replacement hose part # 107-8350-197. Good luck

Also you will find a drain hole if you open the drivers door and look at the side of the cowling. The hole has a rubber grommet in it and it drains between the front of the door and the cowling.
