SLC trans. shifter light

The light in my transmission shift lever does not work although the bulb is good. My owner's manual and my Haynes does not mention a fuse or have a wiring diagram for this circuit. Does anyone know if there is a fuse for this circuit or where this circuit ties into dash light system? Tks.

Kip, I tend to think this is not a fuse, unless some other circuits are out also. It sounds like it's somewhere else. I would check at the lever area first, it may just be a loose or corroded connection.

Eli.

I have opened up the console, replaced the bulb, and checked the bulb holder for current. The dash lights work so it makes me think that it is in the line from the dash circuit (I assume that this line is connected to the dash circuit) to the shifter. Short of pulling out the dash and tracing the line I don't know what else to check.

I don't know what year your SLC is, but for a 1980, it looks like the shifter light is on the same leg as the radio and the ashtray light.

Had a similar problem and it turned out to be a broken ground wire.

Where was the ground wire grounded? All I see are the two wires from the bulb holder disappearing down into the depths of the console.

Can't tell you where it is grounded. It was broken and we soldered another wire in and grounded it to a bolt on the right side of the console. Sorry.
