Nardi Steering wheels

I'm considering installing a Nardi steering wheel in my '78 450SL. I saw one in a '79 450SL, and it looked great.
Does anyone have any advice, experience, or info regarding the install and hub adapter requirements. I checked previous threads, but didn't see any definative answers.

I recently put a Momo steering wheel on my 500SL and it was an interesting experience.

I picked up the steering wheel and adapter for a decent price off eBay and wound up with the incorrect hub adapter. However, I was lucky enough to find another seller on eBay who had the right one and was able to work out a swap with him...for a few dollars. You'd think there would be some standardization on things like a Mercedes hub adaper, but there isn't. Believe the breaking year is 1980, but not certain.

Be alert to the diameter of the steering wheel. Mine is probably 1/4 or 3/8 inches shy of what it really needs to be. That doesn't sound significant, but it cuts the view of the top part of the speedometer. So, if you're interested in how fast you're going when above 50 MPH, you have to bend your neck to see the speedo.

You need to make sure the horn button is included with the steering wheel. This is not always the case and the correct horn button may be hard to find. Don't know about you, but I don't care to have a Momo or Nardi horn button on a Mercedes. The Mercedes horn button is no longer available through Momo because of trademark issues. It's possible the same issue exists with other manufacturers.

The Momo wood steering wheel looks nice on the SL and has a good feel to it. However, for the right price I'd part with mine and go back to the OEM one. ha!

Good luck if you decide to go that route.

If you are going to change your steering wheel for the looks and like the wood you might want to check out this sight. I know someone with one of the original type wooden wheels from this place and it is great. He also has the gage surround as well.

I have a nardi steering wheel, and though you can't see some gauges, it doesn't seem to bother me. Plus, the horn has a mercedes logo (white logo on blue background) on it. I'm not sure if it came like that or what... it came on the car when we got it.
