What is this part's name and how do I replace it?

Hello

This is a pic of my 1987 560SL's hardtop...would like to replace the upholstered part that is circled in red with the three cracks on the surface....does anyone know the name of this part and if it can be replaced or repaired easily?

That is called the package tray and should be a simple job to remove and repair it with the hard-top removed.

Mercedes EPC calls it a "Folding Top Case Cover Lining". The Chassis and Body manual calls it a top well cover/lid. It's part # 002 983 13 86 and will cost between $92 and $115 from the dealer. That's just for the imitation leather piece.

pls confirm we're talking about the piece that is attached to the hardtop and not the cover for the well where the softtop is stored when folded.

thanks!

The only part of the hardtop that I can see is circled is the lower part of the rear window. I was talking about the upholstry attached to the soft top cover lid, which looks to me like what you were trying to circle.

Dom -- is that the reflection of a fancy ceiling fan with lights in your rear window? Are you storing your car in the family room?:p

Best regards and Happy Holidays

sorry, that's the best pic I could get...what I was referring to is the shelf-like piece that's physically attached to the hardtop and is located in the location circled. Probably sits right on top of the softtop's cover lid.

thanks anyways

well it would sure be warmer these days if I could store it in the family room...but no, it was a cheap fan/light from walmart that I hung in the garage. : )

if we're talking about the narrow shelf-like piece that's attached to the hardtop....what is the correct name for this thing? that way I can ask my local indy mb mechanic to quote me price.

OK, after uncovering my hardtop and taking a look I understand which piece it is that you're looking for. The Mercedes description just says "covering". It is color coded and the part number is 107 690 04 35.

Retail price is $131.00. Wholesale is $105.00, which is approximately what Caliber Motors will sell it to you for.

From the parts explosion, it looks to be held in by 4 sheet metal screws.
