Hi

As is always the case when you want one you cannot find one. There was on SL grille on ebay.co.uk a few months ago.

If you do have to buy one try to get a six slat one as opposed to the 7 slat ones on earlier cars.( You prob. have a 7 slat one). New one looks more modern. My 1990 has a newer 7 slat one.

Regards

Did you know.....? That you can buy just the individual metal slats. If you only have damage to one or two slats, they can be replaced without replacing the entire grill. I did that after some @#$% backed into mine in a parking lot. I got them from Phil at Fastlane.

Can you tell me the part number and how much per slat? I went to FastLane but could not find the parts. I would like to replace a couple of mine with unsightly stone chip damage. Thanks.

I saw that one on eBay too and thought, blimey that's expensive -I know why! Of course there was no point spending out back then - don't you just hate that!

More importantly I didn't realise that slats could be purchased individually, but I guess that I should have as when the dealer was looking for the part number on the screen I saw individual numbered bubbles on the grille - maybe a little glue for the badge too will help.

On Christmas eve a kind lady decided that some kids were going to run across the road when the lights were green - of course at that precise moment I was fiddling with the seat controls.....ooooohps a little slide and off pops the badge and a little damage to the grille

Once the tears subsided I concluded that it could have been far worse - only minor grille damage, until I realised the cost of a new one

Cheers
Lea

The part numbers for the individual slats are not in the Fastlane on-line catalog. You have to send Phil a request by e-mail. The slats weren't cheap either, about $60 each, but it was less expensive than an entire grill. You need to drill out the pop revits on the damaged slat to replace it. I've seen the hood badge's ( the circle star ) on e-bay frequently. They usually go for about $15. I bought a spare.

After searching long and hard, I found a used grill for my '99 SL at Potomac German Auto. It was around $350 and in excellent condition. There number is (888) 236-9727. Good luck!!
