Smile I miss the star

Hi,

Look, I've driven around in mercedes since 1970, when I was a little kid. Since I've been driving, I have loved driving in MB's, and always wanted an SL. But now that I have one, and dont' get me wrong, I love the car, but....I miss the star. I really really miss driving a car that has that star up front. It feels so wrong to drive an MB without that star up front.

Does anyone else feel that way?

My Dad had a 59 190 and later a 71 280SE...both with the venerable star.

Only my W124 still has the hood mounted star...my other two just sport the large star logo on the grille.

We live in a less amicable world, and there are a number of owners who have had their beloved star snatched off the hood! So I guess MB decided to remove it from future models altogether...

I like it both ways,,, I took the star off the wagon and put the medallion on it and it looks pretty clean. Still have the star on the 93 and it still looks classy to me.

Would it be unreasonable, and is it even possible, to place that star up on a R129?

You would have to cut a hole in the hood, and then hope the underhood structure would accept the star configuration.

Funny, we traded an 89 300E for our ML. I neve really thought about how much I missed having the gun sight.. er start.. on the front of the car until I bought a super-clean '90 300E about a week ago.

It just belongs there... IMHO.

Holeshot: I know what you mean.>>So often I find myself shooting the car in front of me cause it won't move out of the really fast lane..

Don't they know 80 is a snail's pace!

Had a 92 XJS...had the cat on the hood.

Saw that Jag replaced the cat with the hood badge in 93...

I admit I miss the star...until I step on the gas!

Previous MBs included two 300Ds.

Guys, guys---The SL never had a star, going all the way back to the 300SL! I assume they felt it wasn't a Good Idea for a race car.
That said, for the sedans I've always liked the way it looks from the driver's seat.
