headlight wipers removed
I removed those headlight wipers today because of how they will never go to their proper position when turned on. It was actually very easy. there is a little hole in the middle where the wipers used to come out but you can barely even see it. I dont see any purpose in buying a new piece and painting it.
There is one nut you remove for the wipers and pull it staright out. unplug the black tube for the windhsield washer. remove the screw where that piece under the light is. then u just have to pull it back and hold it up. there is one nut straight ahead that you open and then u just remove the rod where the wipers used to connect to. put that peice under the light back in and screw it in again. it took less then 10 minutes to remove both the wipers. I was impressed. I agree with whoever it was who recommended to me to remove the wipers because the front looks better now and newer. |

Good job, Sid - I'm glad to hear that you're happy with the results. I plan to do the same with mine ('92 500SL) after I summon the courage to face my utter lack of technical competence :p

uh oh
Friends,
Be sure that if you remove just the wipers that they will still operate unless you disconnect them. I removed mine by removing the entire headlight assembly and then removing the motor and the fluid lines from the resovoir. I also disconnected the pump, it has two pumps, one for the windscreen and one for the headlamp washers. If these are not removed and disconnected the wiper motors will still churn behind the headlamp and the wiper fluid will just squirt out! It takes awhile, but you will get it done right. Good Luck! Sid's info was good, thanks!, but not 100% for my 92 SL. Removal of
wiper blade from the shaft is as Sid stated. However, removing the shaft from motor is a bit more involved, at least for me. To get to the rod "nut" requires removing the side marker (turn signal) and the slim piece under the headlight. Removing the side marker (turn signal) provides access to the 2nd screw to fully remove the slim piece under the headlight and access to the nut that holds to wiper rod to the wiper motor and the plastice washer fluid housing. |
