SL Badge/300SL 5M

hi All
I spotted a nice 300SL yesterday. I am guessing model year 90-91. Interesting badge on the rear. It had the mormal 300SL badge on the left side of the trunk but on the right it was badged 5M. I am guessing this to mean 5 speed manual. Was this a special order car for that year? Manual instead of auto?
