WTB: Block Heater Cord

Call me cheap . . . does anyone out there have a working block heater cord they would like to sell cheap? Need one for my '87 300TD and figured I'd try the forum before spending $25 on a new one.

Brier, I may. Will check the shop tonight and get back to you if it exists and what the heater end connection is. $12 delivered to your door if interested. Hanno

Ya, ya, ya. In the other thread you inquired how I tested the block heater to make certain it works. Now, I would like to say I did the same thing you do with a 9 volt battery . . . I laid my tongue across the terminals to see . . . but instead I started searching for an inexpensive cord here under parts.

Well, being that I needed over $300. of shocks and brake components for the SDL, I figured I'd save my tongue and spring for the $21.00 cord. By the time you pay for shipping the cord and giving him $10. for it, a new one looks more attractive (especially for a man of your status )

Talking

"him" couldn't find it so one of you go ahead and put the dealer's cash flow over the top this month. On second thought, I have some parts stashed in another garage near here. I'll check tonight, so keep your credit card in your pocket at the dealer (but do ask them why no Smart, no A-class, no Vito).

My status??? Terminated tax assessor after providing some honest answers to the local press . . . not a community needing an assessor willing to hire one that wouldn't play the political game when asked . . . downgraded to working with "at-risk" youth for about a quarter of the annual income . . . now retired (temporarily) until I decide what I want to do next (other than spend/invest money). I'll have to go back to being employed if I keep this stuff up.

Still looking for a block heater cord. Free would be great (see if that gets anywhere Brian) though willing to pay shipping.

Honest answers? You know that you cannot provide honest answers. That's the one thing that will kill the average politician. Sorry to hear about how it bit you.

You'd be all set if Hanno finds you one of those cords for free. Hopefully before it snows up there.

Snow up here? I thought the Farmers' Almanac said we weren't supposed to get any this winter because Upstate NY would have it all to themselves.

Assessor - Problem, as I discovered, was they didn't understand what the NH statute meant when it referred to "protected autonomy" as it pertained to tax assessors. Great lesson and getting better (1st Amend.)

Off these subjects . . . any thoughts on car covers? Iv'e never bought one yet I probably should for the "soon to arrive" MB. It will be wintered in my barn/shop. Only heated when I work in it. I'm familiar with the most of the regular winter storage routines but I think I'd like to cover this one.

Cannot help you with car covers. Both of the M/B are used most of the time and stay in the garage without covers. I would think that you could find a decent one on e-bay.

I will be replacing my block heater cord in a few weeks, if you want the old one your welcome to it. It is starting to melt and crack in a few areas, other then that it is fine. You can get them new on Fastlane for $13 btw.

If the problem is the a/c plug end, cut it off and replace it with a high quality plug from homedepot.

Okay. What I am doing, is waiting for the '84 to arrive so I can borrow the cord (assuming it has one) long enough to make certain the block heater on my '87 works. If not, I will order a new one from Fastlane and they include the cord. If it does work, I'll order a new cord and part with $13.

Brier, sorry, but the one I had is gone (its playing "how not to be seen"). One hint... run your anti-freeze at 50/50 mixture. Some time ago I went through 3 heaters in two weeks. The mixture was approx. 65% antifreeze which changed the heat transfer. The block heaters didn't like this. corrected to 50/50, no more failures (all the heaters were from the same dealer's stock).
