WTB: non-turbo wagon engine
I need a non-turbo 617 engine for my '80 300TD.
Don't ask why. Loooooong story. Anyway, as most of you already know, it MUST be an engine from a wagon, because there is no mounting boss for the hydraulic suspension pump on a non-wagon engine's cylinder head. This sucks. BAD design decision by MB. :( Another option is buying an entire parts car wagon with a TURBO engine, and changing out the tranny, driveshaft, rear end, and wiring harness. Obviously this is a LOT more work, and I'd rather avoid it, but it's an option. If anyone has an engine or parts car that fits the bill, let me know. Please keep in mind that I only paid $500 for the car, so I'm not looking to put a ton of money into the project. But I do want to get it running again, so I'll pay a REASONABLE amount of money to do so. Thanks fellas. Mike |
Here's a N/A wagon head for sale. Quite a ways from Atlanta though.

If you find a non-wagon engine, I could ship you a wagon head with pump that you could fit on it. See my classified listed a few days ago.

Mike,
May be out of budget, but I have an entire engine-tranny out of an great running (but now demolished) 1984 TD. $750 and you can have the rest of the drivetrain if you want to pull it (engine / tranny already out). I'm in Raleigh, NC. Thanks, Klaus |

How's the wiring harness? I'd need that as well, to covert the car to a turbo engine. How 'bout the rest of the wagon? Is it already parted out, or what? If not, where is the damage, and how bad is it? Mike |

I don't know if there's damage to any of the valves, camshaft, etc., on my blown engine...I haven't even had the oil cap off. I just know that there's a piston rod hanging out of the oil pan. :( I have family in KY, only a couple of hours from you, so let me look for damage to the head that I have, talk to my dad up there about picking it up, and I'll get back to you in a couple of days. thanks, Mike |
RE: WTB Non turbo motor
Mike,
You might think about my listing about parting a 1983 300td wagon. I'll sell the whole car if you want. Cheers, Peter Koskinen prkbikes@bellsouth.net :bulb: |
