w124 wagon tail lights
i was wondering if anyone know of a place that sells the tail lights for the w124 wagon. aside from the stock red white and orange colors. i drive an 87 300td with 272000 miles. it needs a few things to look really cool. i am thinking of dropping a few thousand in her: body kit, light conversion, suspension, wheels. its my daily driver so i am looking to make it look different, as though it doesn't already. lol. if anyone has any ideas, advice please post.

I've just purchased a '95 wagon and was also looking for lighting options. So far this is the only option i've found for taillights. Pretty expensive though...
http://www.tuningzubehor.com/cfb.asppg=products&specific=jreocmmqppf0&lg=en&vehg=4&veh=112&cso=0 i'm not sure if this link will work, but if you search thier site under W124 wagon lighting you will find them. |
so far...
ive found a set of w124 wagon Crystal red/white tail lights on eBay. ive seen them on the car and they look good, but id prefer to see them slightly smoked where it is white. they do exist, they are just $279.
any leads on a cheaper place? two styles below: http://www.123mercedes.com/files/w124_tail_light_wagone.jpg http://www.importvision.com/index.php?display=show_part.php&PartMake=Mercedes&select_PartType=Tail%20Lights |

a MUCH cheaper solution
1 Attachment(s)
so I have done a LOT of research and found a MUCH cheaper solution. the ones you want El Presidente are just like the factory ones, but the amber is clear and smoked, and the back up is smoked as well.
http://images.andale.com/f2/115/106/3699335/1026430219015_023067.jpg you can achieve the same look with your very same lenses. you might cringe when you read it though - but give me a chance. VHT Nite Shades sell a product which is a spray-on paint that tints plastic lenses - it is a transparent black paint. it takes at least 3 coats to completely black out a lens. but if you do one or two coats over the desired area, it gives the nice, even 'smoke look.' i know a few members have done it to their tail lights. and ive read through an exhaustive list of forums talking about how to do this and determined that it is quite easy, the quality is great, and the risk is low (you can use paint thinner to remove the paint). also you don't sacrifice light output. i bought a bottle today from http://www.sandhillspowersports.com/sandhills/?DSP=200&PCR=1:5:50021&IID=vht_niteshds_06 they are cheapest retailer for it, plus free shipping. im going to try this out on one lens first - it has a chip in it anyways. ill post once ive done it. this guy gives a detailed tutorial on how he did his Nissan Z. he goes into wet sanding and polishing, BUT according the product you can get away with no prep work other than cleaning. http://www.350z-tech.com/zwiki/Tutorial:Smoking_Taillights first, ill sand the entire lens. then ill try doing 1 coat over the entire lens. then a second coat over the amber and reverse sections. then a coat of clear coat followed by polish and wax. thoughts? |
I have dealer part #s for the lights you guys are looking for....
With the amber replaced with clear. Ill look for it. |

I have one good lens and one bad one.... the bad one is old enough that the brake lights are a pink instead of red. So I need a new lens anyway. At $200 a lens the $379 for a pair would have been fantastic.... |

did you see my link to the eBay set of crystal lenses for $195 for the pair? they don't look as cheap in real life. i was just in Amsterdam and a lot of the w124's have been updated with crystal lenses - i got the chance to see a couple wagons with the rear crystals and really liked it. |

group buy for MHW Design taillights?
Is anyone interested in trying to put together a group of people to possibly encourage this company to produce a batch of taillights? I know I would happily pay their retail price for a set if they were made available. I also work with another guy who would be interested. Has anyone asked the company or its distributors how many sets would be required to do a run?
|
If the quality is up to OEM I'd be interested. Especially if it is the $279 price.
