Did some more cleaning... Found this from my 420SEL. Its the small (about a pack of cigarettes size) OEM stereo amp that goes behind the back seat in a w126. This is from an 89 model year 420sel, but I believe all of the post 87 w126's use this.

If you have one channel out in your OEM system (left or right). This is the reason.
