My local dealer will mark up parts OVER what Fastlane lists as "retail"...sounds like your local dealer and mine went to the same class

I had my 16 valve go through its emmisions inspection a couple years back. Turns out the gas cap was "no longer safe to use". There was a parts store less than a block away where I could have bought one for cheap. But I had to pay over $10 right then and there or else have to leave with a rejection. My thinking was that they use this line on almost every older car that comes into their shop to earn some extra bucks. Sure they got my money, but lost my business for life-- I just go to a different station now.

Most of the older model Mercedes gas caps fail CA emissions, even if they were just purchased from the dealer. McParts should have it for $6
