Call George Murphy: 865 482 9175.

He sells very nice rebuilt units with custom aluminum housings, and a WARRANTY! ...All for much more reasonable prices than new factory Mercedes units.

got a soldering iron? Aren't these the puppies that need their circuit board connections resoldered every 20 years or so? Check the archives. -CTH

No, that's the "amp" unit that is mounted behind the glove box.

The servos are notorious for developing cracks in the plastic case, or the rotating parts inside freeze up, or both.

Often when a servo goes bad, it will take the amp out with it, and sometimes the pushbutton unit as well...

That is the auxiliary water pump. It's only real function is to provide better heat at idle by improving water circulation.

I'm not sure about the best way to diagnose the ACC amp.... Can anyone help him out here?.....

servo box

I can get servo boxes that look great out f the junkyards here(key words- look). I replaced mine on the departed 80 TD twice before I got the properly functioning unit. While they are cheap compared to new and rebuilt units, they have only a 30 day warrenty, which means I have to return them and find another suitable unit within 30 days of pulling the unit. PM me if this interests you. Cost is about $100, and that includes finding, pulling, exterior/interior visual checking, packing and domestic shipping.

I have 2

I have 2 of them with no cracks in the case. However, I wrecked my test car before I got them tested and the 30-day return policy at the junkyard is long expired. there both from w116 cars you could have them as is both $25 plus shipping if you want to risk it if not I will just hold on to them until I get another car that uses the junk then EBay them as tested good for the sky high prices they fetch.
