NEED: Crank for '74 240D

Well here is my first post to this section of this wonderful site.

I just recently purchased a junkyard speacial with rod knock and took off the bottom pan and took a peak at the #1 and the crank was fine. Being pleasently surprised I tore into it and pulled the engine to replace all the bearings as the #2 was loose as well. After tearing it all out and it is hanging there I take off the #2 and to my not so pleasant surprise the crank is worn and has very slight grooves, but after talking with a freind says the life span is not going to be to good so I should probably replace it.

So here I am asking for any MB forum member if they have a crank sitting around. I sure would appreciate any help. I don't really feel like paying the couple hundred to have it re-ground, etc, but if it sits to long hanging there in the garage the wife will have my head, and I am attached to the car already and would not be able to part with just becasue of a small defect By the way the car has 300K on it and it starts without glowplugs like a charm on a 40 degree day.

I hope one of you can make my dream come true. Again I have a 74 240D waiting to be resurected. All I need is a crank. It is the most beautiful thing on earth....or at least in my driveway

Just a little story for those still reading this long post, I purchased it hours before it was going up on the block I thinnk I owe it this last little push to the finish

Thank you,
Jason

Important information. I love in Portland OR and I am looking for a 74 240D Crank.

I'm Back

Hello all,

I'm back just reviving this thread. I thought I had a crank on its way but turns out it needed to be turned as well. Just hoping maybe someone has come across a crank for my car in the past 6 weeks, or know where one is.

Thank you

Is it really that much to have the crank turned? I would think that you would have to play more to have another shipped to you than to have it ground if thats all that wrong with it.

Well unfortuneatly I can not turn my crank. It apperently had a really hard life and has already been turned 4 (1.00mm) sizes over. They don't make bearings for them any larger than that. And from what I've gathered it is about $200 dollars to have them turned and balanced. I've found shipping is cheap and cranks as well. Some times free, of course those always needed to be reground as well.

I know I will find one but I know I will have to be proactive about it.

OK i'm getting down to the wire here. I have a few questions and hopefully someone can help.

#1. What engine model numbers/years will be compatible with my crank

#2. Is there a place in Portland you have seen that is cheap to have one turned. I've found many that are jacked up just none in good condition.

#3. Any junkyards in your area that I can call. I've looked around here but most are wanting more than it would for me to buy a bad one and have it turned locally. I also have the bearings already so I'd like to find a standard sized crank but an oversized would work as well.
