tag1890, the ignition control module in my daughter's 1991 300CE failed and the only options are a new or used replacement. These ignition control modules cannot be rebuilt/reconditioned. After trying for months to find a used unit I bought a new ignition control module from a local MB dealer. Their parts system shows the ignition control modules unavailable for a 1991 300CE ... fortunately the Parts Manager realized that the 300SL uses the same part and those are available ... got it for wholesale ($1,900). I recommend buying a new one rather than paying big bucks for a used one that is more likely to fail. According to the local independent keeping the ignition system parts (spark plugs, distributor cap, rotor and ignition wires) up to snuff on the 104 engines will prevent failure of the ignition control module.
