I found one.

Hi, I have a 400E now and though that is quite exciting I have decided to buy a 500E. Anywhere in the states, must be in good condition any year is ok and any reasonable modifications.

Purchased a 500e from a member. This site rocks. Now I have the 400e for sale. See the listing. Go to:
http://y42.photos.yahoo.com/bc/fred_held/lst?.dir=/Mercedes+Benz+400e&.view=t&.last=1

to see the car and engine.

Buy 500E

Mileage is not as important as condition. A well cared for Mercedes, no rust and kept repaired should run for 250,000 miles or more.

Condition is KING. I don't want to invest thousands of US$ to just bring it to stock good condition.

Hi, I took delivery and then my main MBZ expert went through it and fixed all to my perfection, which was not much. This is a real car. Porsche and MBZ did more than add 800 ccs to this engine and the suspension is to die for.

The 400e is probably better if you are interested in moderate quickness and great gas milage, but if acceleration lights your fire and handling throw gasoline on it these 500e sleepers are screemers.

I plan to trick it out and I am looking for advice to add 40 to 70 bhp and increase the cornering capability. I am making that my hobby for the next couple of years. There is no reason to get another car, fast, luxury, style and ride. This is hard to beat.

In what way do you plan on using your new toy, mostly commuting with a mix of track events?

You will find a TON of info if you use the search button at the top right of this page.

If you want more power you can try the basics such as chip, exhaust, K&N air filters, and larger air box. I am not sure on the HP figures for these mod's individually and as a package as no one here seems to have done any dyno testing. If anyone has, the results would be very much appreciated.

The Suspension and handling seem to improve greatly if you go to 17 inch wheels and as wide a wheel/tire combo as you are comfortable with. Lou has a 500E and may currently have the widest combo to date, front - 255-40-17 on a 9" wheel, and rear - 285-40-17 on a 10" wheel, he has dropped the car a little so I'm not sure if the rears tires will fit at the stock height. His details can be found in the archives.

Brakes seem to respond well to a upgraded of the SL600 calipers and rotors if your car has not already had this done.

The 500E has been discussed in just about every area, except on how to slow it down, and you are very right about the screamer part, I call the 500E experience, "Perma-Grin" . We simply love our 500E even though she won't admit it! .

Any pic's yet?
