Isn't that the same Stromberg used on Triumphs, MG's, and so on? Check eBay, or hit some British car parts guys. I have a friend in IN who wrenches on TR's and has several parts cars and piles of parts. Bet he'd have one on the cheap if need-be.

Yep, and that is how I got one for the '71 220 I used to have. A British car repair shop gave me one in trade for a six pack.

I thought so. I have two 175's on my TR6, and a third waiting to be installed with my tri-carb intake. If I had a spare I'd offer it.

Let me ask my friend in IN. He may have something -- but you have to promise to place an order of some sort from Fastlane. I just saw whunter's reply with a Fastlane PN, and I hate to take business away from the owners of this forum!

Thanks for understanding TOm, it really comes down to a function of cost and how I have funded this project from the beginning, "shoestring budget"
Only real way to keep peace in the house if you know what I mean
Anyhow CSCMC if you find one let me know

Dumb question -- would a '68 280 have 175's? There's a car in the cars for sale forum that is near me; you might talk the seller into parting with that piece, and I could pick it up for you. Check it out!

ONE. I don't think there is a '68 280. The '68 250 and '68 280S should have twin 2V Zenith carbs and the '68 220 should have twin 1V Solex carbs. The 220 switched to the single Stromberg about '69 or '70.

TWO. The British Strombergs used on '60s Triumph sportscars had a simple plug & damper assy, without the fragile oil reservoir, but according to my factory 114-115 service manual, so did the earliest German Strombergs used on the 220. If the British Stromberg's plug & damper assy fits your German Stromberg (See paragraph THREE) it should work just fine, except that without the reservoir, a much smaller amount of oil is carried down in the piston hole and you may need to check and add oil more often.

THREE. While the '60s British and '70s German Strombergs are similar, there may be detail differences, such as English vs Metric threads, or in the length and diameter of the damper rods & pistons. So I hope you can make the Triumph part work, otherwise you may have to bite that $140 bullet!

Happy Motoring, Mark

Panda,

Here is a whole 175CD on eBay, right now it's at 9.99. A great source of spare parts.

If you could find one of the early Mercedes 220 Strombergs, it would be a better parts match.
If you could fit it in place of your current carb, you'd gain a manual choke and lose the fragile damper oil reservoir, but you'd also lose the idle cut-off valve and all the work you put into restoring that.
